Modi visits terror hit Mumbai, lashes out at PM
Mumbai, Nov 28 : Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi visited terror stuck Mumbai on Friday and lashed out at Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.
Modi said that he is in the state to show solidarity with the hostages and the security personnel fighting the militants holed inside the luxury hotels with hostages for over 40 hours.
Modi is the first political leader who visited the militant hit Oberoi hotel area and conferred with the security officials.
Addressing the media, Modi said that the Prime Minister has disappointed the entire nation as people had pinned a lot of hopes on his special message to the nation.
He even lashed out at Pakistan for allegedly violating the United Nations (UN) convention on the use of sea and land routes to carry out terrorist attacks against India.
"The country had a lot of expectations from the Prime Minister of India during his address to the nation on Thursday but it was disappointing. This is for the first time Pakistan has become a cause of terrorist activity through sea route. Both India and Pakistan are signatories to UN convention. According to it both India and Pakistan will not use or let anybody else to use sea (routes), (land) boundaries and weapons against each other. But what has happened shows clearly that Pakistan has violated the UN convention, said Modi.
He added that he has requested Dr. Singh to convene a meeting of the Chief Ministers of all the states especially the coastal states to assess and take stock of the security.
"I have requested the Prime Minister to call an emergency meeting of the Chief Ministers of all the states of India and also call a separate meeting of the coastal states and make the coastal areas more secure," said Modi.
Modi also announced 10 million rupees aid to the Maharashtra government to be distributed as compensation to the families of the deceased.
He also visited the house of Hemant Karkare, chief of the Mumbai's Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) who was among the 12 policemen killed during the gun battle.
