Khamano bank robbery case, three nabbed by Punjab Police

Fatehgarh Sahib, Nov 25 (UNI) The Punjab Police today claimed to have solved the Rs 46.15 lakh Khamano bank robbery with the arrest of three of the alleged accused.

The robbery was committed at the Khamano branch of the State Bank of India on October 24 last year.

The king pin of crime, Kulwinder Singh alias Doctor, a former constable of the Punjab Police however is still at large.

Disclosing this at a press conference here, Patiala Range DIG Paramjit Singh Gill and Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Dr Kaustabh Sharma said that the three who were arrested were Gurpal Singh, a resident of Bhagwantpura village of Ropar district; Harpreet Singh, a resident of Utala of Ludhiana district and Anurag Sandal, a resident of Samrala.

They were nabbed by a police party headed by Gurdep Singh, in-charge CIA, Sirhind, when they were planning another bank dacoity near Nanowal village yesterday. Two pistols alongwith 17 live cartridges were recovered from them alongwith the stolen car which was used in last years bank robbery.

Mr Gill said the king pin of the gang, Kulwinder Singh, originally a resident of village Mangli Tanda of district Ludhiana was now a resident of Gobind Nager, Samrala. Besides Kulwinder, the other accused who was still at large was Rajinder Singh also of Samrala.

A case under section 399, 402 of the IPC and 25, 54,59 of the Arms Act was registered at Khamano police station at the time of the robbery. The accused were produced in a local court and were remanded in police custody till November 27.
