AP govt calls joint meet of port workers on November 25

Kakinada, Nov 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh government has convened a joint meeting of the Managements and Workers' Unions of the two ports at Hyderabad on November 25 to resolve amicably the row over sharing work on handling of fertilisers from ships diverted from anchorage to the Deep water port.

The dispute had arisen following the October 18 order issued by Secretary (Ports), permitting diversion of fertiliser ships to Deep water port but authorising the anchorage port workers to handle the same. This was objected by deep water port workers.

The efforts of the port authorities to arrive at a compromise by suggesting sharing of work among the workers of both the ports proved futile, with each one claiming their right over the work.

The Government has invited Vinayaka society and Lakshmi Union of the Deep water port, and HMS led Steel Barge Workers Union and Towing Boat Workers Union of the anchorage port.
