TN Govt refutes media reports on deportation of Lankan refugees
Chennai, Nov 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today refuted media reports that the Centre had directed deportation of all the Lankan refugees, housed in various camps in the State, back to Sri Lanka, following the expiry of their stay period.
An official release said the government stoutly denies the report published in a newspaper quoting the State Secretary of a party that owned the newspaper.
Stating that no such directions had been issued by the Government, the release described the news as ''wrong'' and said it would cause fear and anguish in the minds of refugees, who were housed in 115 camps in the State.
They were living in a state of peace by enjoying the benefits extended both by the Central and the State governments, the release said and denied the reports.
