NEERI to host international conference of EIA from tomorrow
Nagpur, Nov 22 (UNI) The city-based National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) will host a three-day international conference on Recent Trends in Environmental Impact Assessment (RTEIA) here from tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters here today, NEERI Acting Director Tapan Chakravarti said the purpose of the conference was to make industries and various stakeholders aware of the provisions of the revised environmental clearance procedure, introduced by the government in September 2006.
Over 200 delegates, including 120 from abroad, were expected to participate in the conference, he said.
The conference would deliberate on, among other things, recent trends in EIA, particularly those related to the application of evolutionary monitoring and modelling tools as well as climate change challenges, Dr Chakravarti said. EIA became a statutory requirement in 1994 when the Ministry of Environment and Forests passed a notification in this regard, he added.
