"Wheels and Waves" motorbike rally arrives in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Nov 19 (UNI) ''Wheels and Waves'' adventure motorcycle rally, consisting of 15 brave sappers of the ''Sada Ek'' Engineer Regiment arrived here today.

The rally, led by Capt Devadesh Sah, which was flagged off from the Bathinda Military Station on November 17 by General Officer Commanding, Headquarters Chetak Corps, was received with fanfare by a large number of soldiers and ex-servicemen.

The rally will travel a total distance of approx 2500 km.

Till now it has covered Faridkot, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Ropar.

The rally will now move to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh from where it will enter the treacherous trails in Garhwal and Kumaon Region and would travel through Dehradun, Mussoorie, Tehri, Pauri, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kotdwar, Lansdowne and Haldwani.

A 30 km stretch of the rally will also be in rafts in the turbulent waters of the Ganges River near Rishikesh.

Besides achieving the basic aim of displaying grit and determination of the Indian soldier in undertaking such an adventure activity in extremely harsh conditions, the rally intends to spread the message of national unity and promote career opportunities in the Army amongst the youth in the interior villages.

''Wheels and Waves'' would also reach out to the ex-servicemen enroute and inform them about the various government schemes concerning them.

The rally would return to Bhatinda on November 28.
