Drive in a 'Made in India' Maruti car in 4 years timeframe

New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India today said it plans to roll out its first completely 'Made in India' car in the next four years.

''We have started the ground work to launch a car which is conceived, designed and developed fully in India,'' Maruti Suzuki India Managing Executive Officer (Engineering) I V Rao told reporters.

The company is hopeful of rolling out the car in the next four years, he added.

However, he declined to comment as to what type of car it would be.

''We are discussing it internally,'' Mr Rao said, adding groundwork such as preparing for manpower, capacity and other related infrastructure has started.

The auto major, today launched the fifth global model of parent Suzuki's 'A-Star' for the domestic market at an introductory price of Rs 3.47-4.12 lakh, and hopes to sell about 5,000 units a month.

The new hatchback powered by a 998cc K10B petrol engine will be manufactured exclusively at the company's Manesar facility.
