Ex-Sarpanch sent to 14 days judicial custody in rape case
Moga, Nov 14 (UNI) The ex-Sarpanch of Ramoonwal village, Harnek Singh, has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a local court in a case of rape against him.
The court also asked the police to file a separate application, seeking a DNA test of the accused to ascertain if he actually was the father of the female baby born to the victim.
Harnek, a Congress worker, was arrested by the Moga Police on Wednesday and was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Kewal Krishan yesterday.
The victim, a resident of Badhni Kalan village, had alleged in her police complaint that Harnek, on the false promise of marriage, had developed relations with her.
However, when she gave birth to the baby in 2004, the accused refused to marry her.
Harnek had earlier failed to get a pre-arrest bail from the local Sessions court and later from the High Court in the case.
