Minor run over by Army vehicle, tension grips Darjeeling
Siliguri, Nov 13 (UNI) A school student was killed when he was run over by an Army vehicle on Hillcart road of National Highway 55 in Darjeeling district today.
Special IGP, Darjeeling range, D T Lepcha said Harsha Agarwal, a student of class VII of Darjeeling North Point School, was returning home from school when the Army vehicle ran over him, killing him on the spot.
Later, local residents ransacked the Army vehicle in protest against the incident.
A large contingent of police forces was rushed to the spot and the driver of the Army vehicle was arrested.
A case was filed against the driver at Darjeeling Sadar police station, the IGP added.
Meanwhile, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha demanded strict action against the driver.
Police was patrolling the area, the IGP said, adding the situation was under control now although tension prevailed.
