1086 in fray for 70 seats in Delhi Assy polls after scrutiny
New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) A total of 1086 candidates are in the fray for 70 seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, polls for which are to be held on November 29, after the scrutiny of nominations today, the Delhi Election Commission said.
Though over 1100 had filed their candidature for the 70 assembly seats when nominations for the polls closed last evening, 1086 were left in the fray after scrutiny of papers held today.
The maximum number of 27 candidates are in the fray from the Rajouri Garden assembly seat in the West district of Delhi while the lowest number of six were in fray from Bijwasan in South West district.
Twenty-six candidates each are in the fray from Kirari from North West district and Karawal Nagar from North East. Twenty-five candidates are in the fray from Burari in North district and New Delhi constituency from where Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is contesting.
Twelve candidates are in the fray from Greater Kailash where BJP's chief Ministerial candidate Vijay Kumar Malhotra is contesting.
The maximum number of 135 candidates are in the fray from eight seats in North East district while the lowest number of 103 nominations were filed from eight seats in South district.
A total of 129 are in the fray from North district followed by 126 from West district, 125 from south west district and 122 from South West district.
As per the notification, November 11 had been fixed as the last date for filing of nominations.
The last date for the withdrawal of candidatures is November 14.
Counting of votes will be taken up on December 8. The term of the present Legislative Assembly of Delhi is expiring on December 17.
