DEG offers $14 mln loan to AMRI for medical care
New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) DEG, one of the Europe's largest development finance institutions, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Advanced Medicare and Research Institute Ltd (AMRI) to provide 14 million dollar financial assistance for improving medical care in Kolkata and Orissa.
Speaking on the occasion, DEG Chairman (Board of Manangement) Winfried Polte said, ''Together with the East India-based AMRI, we make a contribution towards improving medical care and by this indirectly the development of the region and the country.'' AMRI, which is planning to increase its capacity by a total of 2,000 beds within the next five years, intends to build new hospitals in Orissa, including a mother-child hospital in Kolkata.
The existing investment will create about 2,000 new jobs, of which 50 per cent will be reserved for females.
DEG has been active in India since 1964 and its current portfolio in the country stands at about 293 million euros.
