India pitches for UN centre-stage in Myanmar

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) Days after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called upon India to help restore democracy in Myanmar, India today said it would like the International Organisation to be given the ''centrestage'' in the reconciliation process in the Southeast Asian nation.

Mr N Ravi, Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministr, told mediapersons that the process of reconciliation should be inclusive and proceed judiciously.

Mr Ravi was speaking to mediapersons on the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit to be held here on November 13.

''We would like the UN (special envoy on Myanmar) to be given centrestage...The process of reconciliation should be inclusive and proceed judiciously,'' he said in response to a question.

The UN Secretary-General, on a two-day visit to India on October 30-31, had called upon India to play a greater role in restoration of democracy in Myanmar.
