Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Plant's 2nd unit set to be launched
Hisar, Nov. 5 (UNI) Haryana Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala will inaugurate drum lifting event of second unit of 600 MW capacity of Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant, Khedar (Hisar) tomorrow.
A spokesman for Haryana Power Utilities said here today that the drum, having 26.50 metre length and 1.743 metre internal diameter and 2.127 external diameter, will be installed at a height of 80 meters on boiler steel structure.
The boiler drum is likely to take about 16 hours to reach at its position. Boiler drum is a vital organ for boiler which separates the steam and water for further superheating and also serves as a reserve capacity of water for very small duration in the event of failure of water supply in emergencies. The drum will be lifted with the help of four hydraulic jacks.
The boiler drum of the Ist unit of 600 MW capacity of the thermal plant was lifted on September 10 last and the Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda had inaugurated the event.
The boilers, having 289 MT weight each, were transported on an extra heavy duty trailers having 128 wheels and powered by two engines, each of 500HP capacity, from KANDLA PORT traveling around 1400 kilometres. The boiler drums have been supplied by Shanghai Electric Company, China.
