Two policemen sustain injury in Bengal

Hooghly, Nov 3 (UNI) Two police personnel were injured, one of them seriously, when they were attacked by assailants at Inchura under Balagarh Police Station late last night in the state.

SP (Hoogly) Rajiv Misra said the policemen-- Tamal Biswas and Jiten Bag, were beaten up by unknown persons, while they were on a night-patrol with their motorcycle.

The former's revolver, along with six rounds of ammunition, was snatched by the miscreants, while the motorbike was taken away, Mr Misra added.

Mr Biswas was initially taken to Chinsura Imambara District Hospital and subsequently shifted to Kolkata Medical College, where his condition was stated to be critical, he informed.

Mr Misra said at least 68 stiches were performed on Mr Biswas.

However, his colleague Mr Bag sustained minor injury and released from the hospital after administering primary treatment.

According to him, a manhunt had been launched to nab the cultprits and the matter was under investigation.

So far, no arrests had been made in this connection, Mr Misra further informed.
