Postal Deptt. to launch ATMs to boost income

Jalandhar Nov 3 (UNI) Postal department would soon launch its Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) as part of its business expansion activities, which already include sale of gold coins, pamphlets, insurance and money transfer among others.

The Punjab Postal Department, in collaborated with Reliance money, has sold 110 gold coins worth Rs 2,49,276 lakh within one week of Diwali in this city while coins worth Rs three lakh were sold in the textile city of Ludhiana, Jaswinder Singh, Post Master General Punjab circle, today said.

The Department has launched another scheme to attract the customers under Direct Post Service, in which customer can book an advertisement to distribute pamphlets of any kind in any part of the country, which would be done within one day, Mr Singh said.

"Customer has to book an order for minimum 1500 pamphlet at the rate of Rs 1.50 for selected cites while Rs 2 for the remaining cites per article", Mr Singh said claiming that they had done a total business of Rs 2 lakh within seven months.

The department's Postal insurance scheme had garnered the business of Rs 219 crore last year and Rs 224 crore this year, he said claiming that this scheme was launched especially for rural postal services to cover the risk for the customers.

"Money transfer mechanism has also been speeded up by utilising the web service and now customer can transfer money within one day to any part of the world by just paying a minor commission" Mr Singh said.
