Ketan toil to oust Fatehdeep in Asian Ranking Jr Circuit

Chandigarh, Nov 1 (UNI) Ketan Tayal was extended to three well-contested sets before he overcame a stiff resistance from Fatehdeep Singh in the boys second round qualifying match of the Asian Ranking Junior Circuit Under-14 Tennis Tournament for boys and girls being conducted at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here today.

After Ketan struggled to win the first set in tie-breaker 7-6 (3), Fatehdeep Singh neutralised the lead by winning the second set at 6-4. Ketan playing a consistent game, clinched the issue by winning the decider at 6-4 and kept his hopes alive to make it to the main draw of 32 which will begin on Monday.

In contrast Kamal Kishore, who got a first-round bye, had an easy round against Karan Salwan whom he defeated by 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. Pranav Suri snuffed out the challenge of Shaurya Dhankar 7-6 (5) 6-3.

Sumeera Kamal edged out Malini Sinha 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the girls singles first-round qualifying round. Diksha Aggarwal before the latter won by 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in another first-round encounter.

Four boys and four girls would qualify for the main draw as 18 players have got direct entry on the basis of their Asian Tennis Federation rankings and 10 got wild cards in each section.
