Kerala likely to set up university for Malayalam language:CM
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 1 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthandan today said the Government was seriously considering to set up a special University for the study of Malayalam language in the state.
Inaugurating the state-level celebrations of Malayalam Day, he said the University would be for research and study about Malayalam language, its history and Kerala tradition.
Mr Achuthanandan said the Central government was neglecting Malayalam language, a member from the Dravidian language family, from giving classical status to it.
The Central government had already given the status to Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.
Since the classical languages would get central assistance for its development, the Malayalam language had got the eligibility to derive it, he added.
