Cabinet nod to 100,000 purified water systems in schools

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) The Union Cabinet has cleared a Rs 200 crore Budget proposal to provide for 100,000 stand-alone purified water systems in schools for children in the current fiscal.

The scheme will be launched on November 14, Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today, briefing reporters on last evening's Cabinet meeting.

The scheme, announced in the Budget 2008-09, will provide clean drinking water to school children.

It would be continued in the futute also, Mr Chidambaram said.

The Cabinet also cleared for introduction in Parliament the National Highways Authority of India (Amendment) Bill to increase the institutional capacity of the NHAI.

Clearances were also given to the Railway Claim Tribunal Act and the amendment to the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act.
