HSCST to organise District Children Science Congress
Chandigarh, Oct 27 (UNI) To popularise science among students, the Haryana State Council for Science and Technology (HSCST) has decided to organise District Children Science Congress (DCSCs) in each District of the State during the months of November-December 2008.
A spokesperson of the HSCST said DCSCs would be organised through the District Popularisation Coordination Committee headed by the concerned Deputy Commissioner and after culmination of DCSCs, a state level Children Science Congress would also be organised.
He pointed out that young scientists in the age group of 10-14 years (lower age group) and 14-17 years (upper age group) could participate in the DCSCs. However, the event was not only restricted to the school going children but is also open for the children from the marginalised section of the society who could be involved as team members.
He said DCSCs were organised by HSCST every year and a focal theme for the DCSCs is announced by the Rashtriya Vigyan Evam Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad. This year the theme was 'Planet Earth, Our Home-Explore, Care and Share''.
The children would carry out projects related to the focal theme and the identified sub-themes. Activity books were provided in order to help teachers in guiding the children scientists.
A group of five children could take up the project with the help of the scientists, school teachers, coordinators of school science clubs.
