Bhubaneswar, Oct 27 (UNI) General Election to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation will be held on December two, State Election Commissioner Sanjeev Hota announced here today.
Mr Hota said notice for the election of Corporators will be issued on November one and nomination of candidates would be held on all working days from November six to 12.
The scrutiny of nominations would be done on November 14 and the list of valid nominated candidates will be published on November 15.
The candidates would be allowed to withdraw their candidature till November 17.
Counting of votes and declaration of results will be made on December three.
The indirect election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor would be taken up December 10 and December 26 respectively, Mr Hota said.
The model code of conduct will become operational from today till December three. No new schemes or projects would be started. No new financial concession could be announced which could directly or indirectly influence the voters, the State Election Commissioner said. The government was also directed not to make any transfer without the concurrence of the commission.
He said Electronic Voting Machines would be used for the first time in the General Elections to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
As many as 6.40 lakh voters would exercise their franchise to elect Corporators from 60 wards, one third of which would be filled up by women.
Mr Hota said election to the Bhubaneswar Municipal corporation and Cuttack Municipal Corporation and Baripada Municipality could not be held in September due to the stay order of the High Court.
He said while the Commission announced the date for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation the election to the Cuttack Municipal Corporation and the Baripada Muncipality would be held in January after the revision of electoral rolls.
