Tirupur created as new district in TN
Chennai, Oct 25 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today announced creation of a new Tirupur District with the well-known knitwear centre as the headquarters, carving it out from Coimbatore and Erode districts.
The new Tirupur district, the 31st in the state, was created following a report by the Special Commissioner and Commissioner for Revenue Administration, after Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced the formation of the new district, an official release here said.
The Chief Minister, participating in a function on December 29, 2007 in connection with the upgradation of Tirupur Municipality as Corporation, had announced the creation of the new district to take the administration closer to the people.
A government order said the Coimbatore and Erode districts would be reorganised into Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruppur districts as Coimbatore district with headquarters at Coimbatore, Erode district with headquarters at Erode and Tirupur district with headquarters at Tirupur.
