K'taka: Greater Talacauvery project opposed
Madikeri, Oct 25: Kodagu Swabhimana Vedike and Budakattu Jananga organisation have opposed the Greater Talacauvery project saying it is against the interest of the people of Kodagu.
Addressing media persons B T Dinesh and Muthappa of the organisations said that the Greater Talacauvery project with an aim to preserve the area as a world heritage zone will reduce the dwelling areas of Kodagu, and also threatening the livelihood of the people.
They said that the project was mooted by then Chief Minister S M Krishna influenced by fake environmentalists of Kodagu.
Mr Krishna had submitted a report to UNESCO to declare Talacauvery zone as a World Heritage spot, they said.
Rs 6000 crore is earmarked to implement this project by vacating dwellers, they said.
They urged the people's representatives and the government to give a serious thought to the problem.
The project should be stopped before its implementation, they said.
