People celebrate Granth Sahib's 300 yrs at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj

New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) Thousands of devotees today thronged Gurudwara Rakab Ganj here on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib, being celebrated across the country.

Nearly 20,000 devotees offered their prayers and celebrated the historic event at the Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC)-Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib had made special arrangements for this event.

A special congregation held on the occasion was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi Minister for education and tourism Aravinder Singh Lovely, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh. The DSGMC and the Delhi Akali Dal honoured them with a siropa (robe of honour).

The celebrations included Kirtan Darbar, langar, blood donation camp and turban tying competition for children.

The DSGMC had also arranged special shabad kirtans on this occasion on Saturday and Sunday.

The tricentenary celebration of the Guru Granth Sahib hold prominence as it is being held in the Independent India for the first time.

The first centenary was celebrated during the Mughal reign and the last was held during the British rule 100 years ago.
