MRTPC fnds 49 companies quilty of monopolistic tendencies:Min

New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) Altogether 49 companies have been issued with "cease and desist" orders and a case was registered against 128 companies found guilty of violating the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices (MRTP) Act between January 2006 and September this year, Corporate Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta said here today.

Giving details, he told the Lok Sabha in a written reply to a question that out of 67 cases lodged by the MRTP Commission (MRTPC) during 2006 for violation of the MRTP Act, in 26 cases "cease and desist" orders were passed, whereas in other cases compensation was allowed.

Of a total of 41 cases in 2007 for violation of the MRTP Act, "cease and desist" orders were passed in 18 cases, and compensation allowed in the rest.

Up to September 2008, the commission detected 20 cases of violation of MRTP Act and passed five cease and desist orders; In other cases, compensation was allowed.
