Interest of labourers top agenda: INTUC
Patna, Oct 18 (UNI) Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) national chairperson and MP G Sanjiva Reddy today said the interests of the labourers in various sectors was their priority and maintained that any development would be irrelevant if this section was in distress.
Addressing a two-day 271st national executive meeting here, Dr Reddy said the global economy, including that of the US, was facing recession following which several national and multi-national companies were facing huge loss. To cope up with the losses the companies were exploring several ways and means, including retrenchment of employees.
He said all issues related to the labour class would be discussed in detail in the meeting.
''In the present economic situation the INTUC will have to play a major role for the benefit of the labourers. Providing them job security is the utmost responsibility of organisations,'' Dr Reddy said.
Bihar Labour Minister Abdhesh Narayan Singh highlighted the contribution of the labourers and said their hard work could be repaid by honourable minimum wage.
