Kolhapur journalists demand action against policemen
Kolhapur, Oct 16 (UNI) A delegation of city journalists today met District Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Kumbhar here and submitted a memorandum demanding action against policemen, who were allegedly involved in insulting a news agency reporter on October 13.
On Monday evening, the concluding day of a three-day-long Dussehra Mahotsav (festival), the administration had organised programme of playback singer Sudesh Bhosale at Shivaji stadium, when policemen at the gate allegedly insulted United News of India (UNI) Kolhapur reporter B B Kaingade and barred him from entering the stadium for news coverage even after he showed the press pass issued by the administration.
The delegation was led by Vithal Patil, President of Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Patrakar Sangh (ABMPS) Kolhapur district, P D Patil, Secretary ABMPS, (both from daily Pudhari), Kolhapur Prss Club president Niwas Chaugule (Sakal) and other club members.
Mr Kumbhar described the incident of misbehaviour as 'wrong' and assured he would look into the matter.
He said the guilty will not be spared.
City journalists earlier in the day held a meeting and met district collector Dileep Jadhav, requesting him to look into the matter.
