Govt not to intervene in Jet's retrenchment decision
New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) The Government today said it was not in a position to intervene in the Jet Airways decision to lay off 1,900 employees working in various operational areas, saying the decision was entirely a matter relating to the economics of the private airline.
''As far as the airlines are concerned...If they are not effective financially, it is for them to take corrective measures,'' Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal told mediapersons after briefing on the outcome of the Cabinet decisions.
''It is not the concern of the government. It is a private airline,'' he said, when asked to comment on the unprecedented step taken by the airline to retrench employees.
Two days after it entered into a strategic alliance with Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways yesterday announced sacking of 1,900 employees who had become redundant.
