CPI(M) invites political parties to join dharna
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 14(UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI-M) Kerala Unit Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today urged all political parties to ensure that the proposed dharna in front of Parliament on October 17 led by Chief Minister V S Achuthandan in protest against the Centre's neglect of the state, was a success.
In a statement here, he alleged that the Centre's move was to push the state to poverty .
The agitation by the Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues, MPs and MLAs from the state was to end the Centre's neglect of the state.
He said the Centre had the Constitutional responsibility of helping the state, which was facing serious food scarcity.
The CPI(M) leader alleged that the Centre was continuing to slash rice quota to the state and added though the Chief Minister had submitted a memorandum to restore the normal quota, no action was taken in this regard.
The Centre had also cut the state's share of electricity, he alleged.
The Congress lead oppossition UPA must also support the CPI(M)'s agitation if it really cared for the people as it had also ruled the state.
