Acid thrown on woman in Punjab town
Moga, Oct 14 (UNI) A married woman sustained burn injuries when three people threw acid on her in Ghalkalan village in the district last night, police today said.
According to police sources, the victim was standing outside her house when three people of the village, on a motorcycle, threw acid on her and then sped away. The woman sustained burn injuries on her legs and was later taken to the civil hospital for treatment.
The police on the statement of the victim registered a case under various clauses of the IPC at the Sadar police station here against the alleged accused--Soni alias Kirpal Singh, Neeta and Jeeta. All the three were absconding.
Police sources said the victim had in July this year alleged that Soni, Neeta and Jeeta had raped her. Intially the police did not register a case but when she ripped off her clothes outside the police station here, the police moved fast to investigate the matter and then registered a case of rape and abduction against the three accused.
The three were later arrested and after spending sometime in jail they were released on bail. According to the police, the acid attack was an apparent attempt by the accused to take revenge on the woman on whose statement the case of rape and abduction was registered against them.
