Khanduri deamnds central status for Kumaon University

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuvan Chand Khanduri has urged the Centre to grant Central University status to Kumaon University.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Gen Khanduri expressed his gratitude for the decision to grant central university status to Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, but said it would be further in the interest of the state if the same status was given to Kumaon University too.

The Chief Minister said he had already expressed his demand in a letter to Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh.

By granting the central university status to Kumaon University, higher education will get a new boost in the hill state, he said.
