Gujarat pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi
Ahmedabad, Oct 2 (UNI) Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma and Chief Minister Narendra Modi led the people of the state in paying homage to the 'Father of the Nation' Mahatma Gandhi on his 139th birth anniversary.
A prayer service was organised in his remembrance at Sabarmati Ashram here, where the Mahatma took important decisions during the early years of the freedom movement.
Students of the Gujarat Vidyapeeth, an educational institution founded by Gandhiji, held the Amber Charkha spinning function at Income-Tax circle here to mark the occasion.
Mr Modi attended a function to mark Gandhi Jayanti at Kirti Mandir in Porbandar, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi.
