Delhi Red Cross society reaches out to flood-affected Bihar
New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) A team of the Delhi Red Cross Society, under the patronage of Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna and the president of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Delhi Branch, has reached out to the flood-affected areas of Madhepura and Purnia districts in Bihar and distributed eight truck loads of relief items (30 tonnes) to the needy families.
The relief items, which included areas like Banmankhi, Janaki Nagar, Narpatganj, Murali Ganj and Udaikishan Ganj, included about one lakh pre-cooked food packets, atta, rice, grains, milk powder, sattu and namkeen/biscuits as well as tents, blankets, mosquito nets, clothes, utensils, basic medicines, among other items.
The team has been working in the area for the past three days with its base camp at Katihar. the Indian Railways, especially the GM (NR) and DRM (Delhi), were extremely helpful along with the District Magistrates of Katihar, Purnia, Saupaul, Madhepura and Saharsa President (IRCS), Delhi Branch.
The Lt Governor has expressed gratitude to all the donors and officials as well as the IRCS volunteers, who have extended help to the needy in Bihar in the hour of crisis.
