Freedom fighter Sita Ram passes away
Shimla, Sep 30 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh veteran freedom fighter and former Legislative Assembly member Pandit Sita Ram passed away at his native village Dharath in Dhami area of Shimla district today.
He was 93.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son.
His body was cremated with state honours in the village.
Pandit Ram, who was Pradhan of Dhami Praja Mandal in 1939, was jailed in Dhami prison from October 1939 to September 1940. He was deported from the state by the then ruler of Dhami Princely State.
He remained member of the Legislative Assembly from 1952 to 1956 and from 1967 to 1972.
Governor Prabha Rau, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh have condoled the demise of Pandit Ram.
