AIADMK will always protect rights of minorities: Jaya
Chennai, Sep 26 (UNI) Virtually wooing Muslim voters ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today said her party would always remain as protector of the rights of minorities.
Hosting an Iftar party here, she said the AIADMK had always protected the rights of Muslims and would continue to do so.
Virtually wooing the Muslim voters, Ms Jayalalithaa said, ''you (the Muslims) had always stood with us (the AIADMK). I hope it will continue in future also.'' At a time when there were incidents of violence in the neighbouring States, Tamil Nadu remained a haven of peace, she claimed.
''Whenever the AIADMK was in power, it earned the name of protectors of Muslims,'' she claimed adding her government ensured there was no room for any communal violence.
''The AIADMK ensured the Muslim brethren in the State felt secure,'' she said greeting the Muslim community on the occasion of Ramzan.
MDMK Leader Vaiko, whose party was an ally of the AIADMK, Muslim leaders and senior AIADMK leaders participated in the event.
