Kamaraj Govt Med College building to handed over to ESIC

Puducherry, Sep 25 (UNI) The Puducherry administration has taken a decision in principle to hand over the Kamaraj Government Medical College building to the Employess State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Chief Minister V Vaithilingam said.

Talking to newspersons after a cabinet meeting last night, he said a five-member committee headed by Health Secretary has been constituted to hold discussions with ESIC officials on the takeover modalities.

He said the next cabinet meeting on October eight would discuss in detail the issue of implementation of ''Goondas Act'' in the Union Territory.

Stating that the administration has sanctioned a private medical college this year in Karaikal, he said the college should be converted into a Deemed University.

After the college was converted into a Deemed University, the government approval would be withdrawn, he said, adding that this condition would be applicable to all private medical colleges here.

On the financial position of the administration, Mr Vaithilingam said currently it had Rs 643 crore and was set to obtain a loan of Rs 100 crore.
