Holy city Puri cut off from both road and rail network

Bhubaneswar,Sep 22 (UNI) The holy city of Puri was today cut from road and rail network as flood waters overflowed the National Highway 203 and a railway bridge.

Train services between Khurda road and Puri was affected after the flood water of river Bhargavi overtopped a railway bridge between Delanga and Birpurusottampur Railway station in Khurda Road-Puri section of Khurda road division in East Coast Railway.

Railway sources said the track was suspended after flood waters overflowed the bridge No 44 at 1215 hrs forcing the authority to cancel the 8303/8304 Sambalpur-Puri-Sambalpur intercity express, 3KP Khurda Road-Puri Passenger and 222 Puri-Anugul passenger trains between Puri and Khurda road.

The 8474 Jodhpur-Puri Express was controlled at Khurda Road and the 7479 Puri-Tirupati Express scheduled to start from Puri at 1215 hours was detained at Puri.

Earlier, the road communication of the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway 203 was snapped after a bridge near Satasanka was washed away by the flood in the Mahanadi river system.
