Tension prevails after Church set afire in MP

Jabalpur, Sep 19: Tension prevailed at Sadar area in this cantonment town after unidentified people set an old place of worship on fire last night, police said today.

Unidentified people entered the place by breaking its door and set it ablaze by dousing kerosene.

Anguished over the incident, members of the minority community gathered outside in a large number and staged road blockade at Polytechnic road for a long time during midnight shouting slogans and demanding the arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, some youths vandalised the nearby shops. Members of the community continued their meeting till late midnight. All missionary schools and colleges remained closed today as a mark of protest.

Collector Hariranjan Rao, Superintendent of Police Makrand Deoskar and other senior officials reached the spot and assured people that culprits would be arrested.

A delegation of the community members would submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during his 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra' and demand the arrest of the culprits.
