1 bn cellphone users in India by 2015: COAI
New Delhi, Sep 18: COAI the GSM operators' body on Thursday, Sep 18 said the country's mobile subscriber base is expected to touch the 750 million mark by 2012 and there will be over one billion cellphone users in India by 2015.
''By 2012, there will likely be 750 million mobile users in the country and India is expected to see a total of over one billion mobile subscribers by 2015,'' COAI Director General T V Ramachandaran told mediapersons. By August 2008, India's telecom subscriber base touched the 300 million mark, Mr Ramachandaran apprised. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), constituted in 1995, is dedicated to the advancement of communication through cellular mobile telephone services.
The Association has a vision to establish and sustain a world-class cellular infrastructure and facilitate affordable mobile communication services in India, with the main objective of protecting the interests of its members.
