Three shot dead in Manipur, one injured

Imphal, Sep 16 (UNI) Three persons were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in separate incidents during the last 24 hours.

Police said here today that a youth was shot dead at Neikanlong, Thangmeiband, Imphal.

The body was sent to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for identification and post-mortem.

In a separate incident police recovered a body from Senapati district.

In yet another incident a man was shot dead at Irengbam, Bishenpur district.

Suspected militants also shot at one Laishram Shantikumar of Heirok Part-II at Thangmeiband yesterday.

Earlier, militant outfits had warned the people of Heirok, Bishenpur district not to venture out of Heirok.

Meanwhile, the state police tightened security at Imphal area.

All vehicles coming towards the main market area were also being frisked. Police even checked bags of school children.

The state police also conducted mass combing operations to check militant activities.

Recently, the residence of Manipur Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh was attacked by cadres of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).

Suspected militants also launched a bomb attack on the residence of MLA T.Hangkhanpao at Churchandpur yesterday and three bombs were defused by police at different areas of Imphal.
