Haryana enhances aid for SCs to seek legal aid
Chandigarh, Sep 16 (UNI) The Haryana government today decided to enhance the amount of financial assistance being given to Scheduled Castes people to seek legal aid from Rs 500 to Rs 2,500.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the state level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee to review the implementation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act presided over by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here today.
It was informed that legal assistance was being given to members belonging to Scheduled Castes for defending themselves against eviction from land and protection against exploitation by land lords.
While reviewing the issue of atrocities committed against members belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the Chief Minister stressed the need for speedy disposal of such cases.
