Deep depression to bring more rains to AP
Hyderabad, Sep 16 (UNI) Even as major reservoirs across River Krishna surplused following copious rains in upper riparian states of Karnataka and Maharashtra, more rains one predicted in Andhra Pradesh as morning's depression over North Bay of Bengal was intensified into a deep depression.
The system which lays centered at about 130 km Southeast of Chandballi, is likely to intensify further and move in the West-Northwesterly direction and cross the Orissa coast near Chandballi later today.
Under its influence, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Khammam, Karim Nagar, Warangal and Adilabad of Telangana during the next 48 hours.
Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers are likely at most places in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at many places over Telangana, according to the weather office here.
Another upper air cyclonic circulation over Northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat coast now lies over Gujarat and extends upto mid tropospheric level. Under its influence, increased rainfall was likely in the catchment areas of the River Krishna and Godavari.
Squally winds at a speed reach of 55-65 mph are likely along Andhra Pradesh Coast during the next 24 hours. Sea conditions are rough along and off these coasts. Fishermen were advised not to venture into sea.
With an inflow of 2.81 lakh cusecs, the level at the Srisailam reservoir touched 884 ft mark, forcing authorities to discharge 2.79 lakh cusecs of water downstream, irrigation department officials said.
With the level at the Nagarjunasagar Reservoir reaching 588.30 ft against its capacity of 590 ft, the authorities let out the entire inflow of 1.94 lakh cusecs downstream by lifting all the crest gates.
Rain occurred at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours. Isolated rain lashued Telangana, while weather was dry over Rayalaseema.
The chief amount of rainfall recorded in cm are Palasa and Patapatnam three in each, Kalingapatnam, Ichapuram, Mandasa, Palakonda and Veeraghattam two on each and Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar, Sompeta and Tekkali one on each.
