Prachanda's India visit should redefine India-Nepal economic ties

Kathmandu, Sept 13 : The business community of Nepal has said that Prime Minister Prachanda's first visit to New Delhi should focus on working for an environment that will help Nepal to build a new economic background.

During an interaction organized by various ministries including the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies here on Friday, business leaders emphasized the need to focus on the larger economic picture rather than concentrate on petty issues.

President of Nepal India Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arun Chaudhary said that the visit should be utilized as an opportunity to redefine economic relations between the two countries.

The trade experts also viewed that the visit should rise above the conventional agenda of trade and focus on new approaches that will gear up economic activities for mutual benefits.

"We have to look at trade and investment with a new perspective. Investment from India and exports from Nepal could be a good approach to deal with mutual economic interests," said Professor Dr Bishwambher Pyakuryal, a trade expert.

Traders said that Nepal should also push for a new bilateral mechanism at the central and local levels to promptly address trade and investment related concerns within specified timelines without fail.

Prachanda is scheduled to arrive in India on September 14.

This will be his first visit to India after becoming the first elected Prime Minister of the federal republic Nepal.

He will accompanied by four ministers including Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav, Information and Communication Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Commerce and Supplies Minister Rajendra Mahato and Water Resource Minister Bishnu Poudel, Nepalnews reported.
