Puducherry police to be revamped: Valsaraj

Kozhikode, Sep 10 (UNI) The Puducherry administration is in the process of revamping the police department in the Union Territory, Home Minister E Valsaraj today said.

Talking to newspersons here, he said all police stations would be brought under ISO standard, envisaging transparent behaviour, among other things, as part of the programme.

Initially the scheme would be experimented in two or three stations and extended to others later, he said.

The government also proposed to set up tourism police wing as part of tourism promotion in the Union Territory.

Various development schemes would be launched in Mahe, part of the UT, sandwiched between Kannur and Kozhikode districts of Kerala, Mr Valsaraj said.

They included Rs 22.5 crore fishing harbour, Rs five crore footpath, a check dam to prevent salinity, Rs 10 crore pipeline for water supply, family entertainment centres such as multiplex on a hillock and a dental college in the private sector.
