Raj Thackeray burnt in effigy over remark on Bachchans

Kanpur, Sep 9 (UNI) The Samajwadi Yojana Sabha (a youth wing of the Samajwadi Party) today took to the streets and burnt Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray in effigy over his objectionable remarks on actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan here.

Raising anti-Thackeray slogans, the mob set afire his effigy at Naveen Market crossing.

The protestors-led by Samajwadi Yojana Shabha president Ravi Pratap Singh demanded immediate action from the union government against Mr Thackeray and also a case against him.

The MNS president had recently in a statement said mega super star Amitabh Bachchan, his wife and Member of Rajya Sabha Jaya Bachchan were anti-Maharashtrians as they preferred Hindi. Mr Thackeray had also threatened to remove the movies of the Bachchan family in Maharashtra.

Mr Thackeray had passed this remark after Mrs Bachchan at a function in Maharashtra had said that she would like to speak in Hindi as she belonged to Uttar Pradesh.
