TN: 3 killed, 20 injured in a bus accident

Kancheepuram, Sep 9: Three people were killed and 20 sustained serious injuries when a State Transport Corporation bus in which they were travelling, hit a tree near Chengalpattu on the Chennai-Tiruchirapalli National Highway early on Tuesday, Sep 9.

Police said the bus from Kumbakonam was proceeding to Chennai when the accident occurred.

The deceased were identified as Income Tax Official Lavanya (25) and Jayasri (58), both from Chennai and Bus Conductor Manoharan.

As many as 20 passengers, including five women, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Government Hospital in Chengalpattu.

Traffic was affected for over an hour on the national highway due to the mishap, police added.
