Villagers resort to agitation following woman's death
Pudukkottai, Sep 7(UNI) Tension prevailed for a while at Sathyamangalam village on the Tiruchirapalli-Pudukkottai National Highway as villagers at Kaveri Nagar and Parangivayal resorted to agitation against the alleged negligence of the doctors and the para-medical staff of a Primary Health Centre (PHC), which resulted in the death of a mother and her infant here yesterday.
Police said the trouble started when a 22-year-old woman Indira of Parangivayal village delivered a female baby, which was born dead at PHC. She was rushed to the Government Hospital here when her condition worsened. However, she died on the way to the hospital.
Protesting against her death the villagers staged road roko and the traffic was paralysed.
Acting on the information, the District Sub Collector Muthuveeran rushed to the spot, pacified the agitators and restored normalcy.
The husband of the deceased Sivasomu told newspersons here that he lost his wife and the daughter due to to negligience of the PHC.
Moreover, the ambulance of the health centre was not in a running condition and its driver often proceeded on leave, he alleged.
