PDP condemn police excess, concerned over SOG-Ikhwan activities
Srinagar, Sep 7 (UNI) Strongly condemning the police and CRPF excesses, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concern over the activities of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and "Ikhwans" (counter insugents) in the Kashmir valley.
In a resolution adopted at a meeting here today the PDP strongly condemned the killing of another youth in police firing at Nowhatta yesterday.
The meeting called for stern action against the policemen involved in such killings.
The resolution also expressed anguish over the reign of terror let loose by the police and other security agencies that have started arresting, intimidating and harassing the innocent civilians especially the youth and government employees.
''There are reports that Ikhwanis and SOG personnel have been reactivated in various areas to intimidate and harass the people," the meeting observed and cautioned that such strong-arm and repressive tactics are only going to alienate the masses further to the deterrent of the peace efforts.
Demanding immediate release of all the detenues, especially the youth, the meeting also reiterated the party's demand for ex-gratia and compensation for all those who were affected by the recent agitation.
The meeting also paid tributes to the PDP cadres of Jammu who withstood all the pressures, even threatenings, to keep the party's flag flying in Jammu when almost all other parties had ganged up with the communal elements in the region.
All the PDP leaders participated in the meeting that was presided over by the party President Mehbooba Mufti, a release issued here this afternoon said.
