Marine Police Academy to come up in Kerala

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) The Centre has given final clearance to the setting up of a "Marine Police Academy" in Kerala.

This was communicated to Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnanan when he called on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.

Mr Balakrishnan told mediapersons that the Centre had demanded a total of 100 acres of land for the setting up of the academy. The state government had already acquired 43 acres of land adjoining the Ezhimala Naval Academy. Mr Patil asked the state government to expedite the acquisition of the remaining area for the project.

He said a coastal police station would start functioning from Neendakara in Kollam district from next month.

Mr Balakrishnan said he had also discussed the continuing violence against Christians in Orissa UNI SH BDP HS1958
