Fishermen nets motorcycle while fishing in mid sea

Ramanathapuram, Sep 2 (UNI) A group of fishermen netted a rusted motorcycle while fishing at mid sea off Mandapam Coast early today.

Police sources said a group of four fishermen ventured into sea in a mechanised boat from Mandapam for fishing yesterday morning.

While fishing, they netted a motorcycle, instead of marine species.

Astonished over the rare catch, the fishermen returned to the shore and handed it over to the Customs officials here.

Officials suspect the motorcycle, while being smuggled to Sri Lanka might have fallen into the sea, a couple of months ago. Due to heavy rust formation, the number plates were disfigured, the sources added.

It was exposed for the first time that motorcycles were being smuggled to Sri Lanka for the Tamil rebels. The LTTE sympathisers and agents used to smuggle medicines, explosive materials, diesel, batteries, spare parts of machineries and other materials meant for the rebels, despite round-the-clock vigil maintained by the central and state security agencies.
