Honouring rtd teachers should continue: Ramadass
Puducherry,Sep 1: PMK State Secretary and Parliamentary Party Leader M Ramadass on Sep 1 urged the territorial administration not to stop the scheme providing one sovereign gold coin to teachers who retired from service.
In a letter to Education Minister M O H F Shajahan, Prof Ramadass said he came to know the government proposed to stop the scheme from this year due to paucity of funds.
Since it was an honour for teachers doing good work in moulding future citizens of the country, the scheme should not be stopped.
Prof Ramadass said if sufficient funds were not available, they could be obtained from the Centre or the Puducherry administration could make allocation in its Budget.
As 60 to 70 teachers retired in an year, the financial implications would be around Rs six lakh only.
